What I will bring to Johns and James Islands

construction

Intelligent, Sustainable Growth

We need balanced, community-informed zoning and development policies to ensure Johns Island’s infrastructure is developed wisely while preserving its unique character and protecting its natural beauty.

  • Develop roads and infrastructure appropriate for expected population growth and density while protecting the natural surrounding environment. I will work with Joe Boykin and the County Council to find practical solutions to traffic and infrastructure challenges that are plaguing Johns Island.

  • Invest in infrastructure for rapid recovery from storms and other natural disasters

Common Sense Leadership

As a Marine Corps officer and a dedicated Patriot, I have decades of public service and leadership experience in unpredictable and extremely challenging situations.  I have a servant-leader mindset...I aim to serve my constituents by getting results through strong leadership.

  • My training and experience have taught me how to find practical solutions and build alignment, and I will work with the City and County Councils to propose prudent policies and will vote in the best interests of our community.

  • I will ensure we use our tax dollars wisely & invest in priorities based upon what our community actually needs.

Johns Island Will Finally Have its Own Strong Voice

I will act as your direct representative to the City Council to ensure that the concerns of our community are heard so we can decide what Johns Island looks like in the future.

  • Instead of reacting, we must plan proactively for the future of Johns Island.  I will hold quarterly town halls with residents so I can listen to the community and represent you on the City Council and advocate for our needs.

  • Create a family-friendly environment:  Invest in resources such as recreation centers, ball fields, parks & playgrounds and find solutions to increase access to the water for boating and recreation.

WHY I RAN FOR THE CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 3 POSITION

As a Marine Corps Veteran with 25 years of service and seven deployments overseas, I’ve faced enemy fire on the ground and in the air, and I’ve been tested countless times. My experience has forged within me a heart of service and sacrifice that drives me to protect and defend our American values, our God-given rights, and our cherished freedoms.

We are blessed to live amongst the immense beauty and serenity of Johns Island.  As more and more people have discovered its charm, our population and urban development have mushroomed. In my opinion, it’s grown way too fast and without adequate forethought and planning, and this is jeopardizing the character of Johns Island that we love so much.  Growth can be good, but it must be done with wisdom and prudence, which comes from community input.  The community has not been heard -- that is evident -- and that has to change.

After decades of being overlooked by the city, Johns Island will finally have its own dedicated voice on the Charleston City Council.  I’m running for the newly created District 3 Johns Island seat (which includes some of James Island) to give us a strong voice for intelligent future growth, and to drive the changes we need to protect our islands.

This is my mission for Johns and James Islands.  Please work with me, and let’s get this done together.

Military Award Citation & Evaluation Excerpts

"[Jim's] efforts were always on target.  [Runway] matting projects, fueling of aircraft, and all airfield operations executed with energy, precision, and operational acumen. Can juggle multiple operations at once and meet/exceed mission requirements each time.  Communication (verbal and written) far above his peers.  Tremendous leader who mentors, teaches, and challenges his Marines; a terrific role model."

“Lieutenant Colonel McBride made significant contributions to the Joint Staff by building a network of trusted agents and partners ... to support planning and execution of the Chairman’s Exercise Program.”

“On numerous occasions, often while being engaged by multiple surface-to-air missile sites and anti-aircraft artillery firings, Captain McBride disregarded his own personal safety to maintain complete focus on the mission at hand."

"During eight straight days of intense enemy contact, Capt McBride's use of aviation assets was essential to the battalion's success. His professional ability and his courage, even while under fire and managing multiple aircraft overhead, allowed the battalion to [succeed] without suffering a single friendly [casualty]."
